The 2008 BMFA Children's Flight Challenge

Duxford Museum Following the success of the 2007 competition we were pleased to be invited back to Duxford to hold this years event, this time in Hangar 2 where several of the privately owned aeroplanes are kept. The 2008 event received a record entry with over 220 children competing on the day supported by around 120 adult supervisors and helpers.

The competition was a huge success and I have had much positive feedback from all those involved, the spectacle of so many children flying model aeroplanes and having fun is one not to be missed, from my point of view the enthusiasm and joy expressed by all the youngsters present made all the effort worth while.

This year I have asked two gents to write up their experiences of the Flight Challenge in order to give an overall flavour of the event, hopefully the included pictures will add to this.

It just remains for me to say a big thank you to all those who attended and particularly to my team of willing volunteers who turned up on the day and assisted with timekeeping and scoring as well as the more onerous tasks of reception and results input (Doreen Palmer and Dave Phipps respectively). Also thank you to Stuart Taylor and John Grimson for their reports and to Peter Halford of IWM Duxford for his assistance and support. If you would like to enter a team or assist with the 2009 Flight Challenge then contact me at Chacksfield House for more information.
