Ronald 'Ron' Checkley, of the Tamworth (Hanson) Model Flying Club, passed away earlier this years at the age of 87. (Jet) Jethwa

I wish to inform everyone that sadly Jet passed away after a very short illness on the 27th of July 2016. I first met Jet on Beverley Westwood 20 years ago and he remained a very well respected and good friend till the end, eventually after some persuading he joined our little club. A lifelong modeller and flyer with exquisite building skills and engineering ingenuity for solving problems. He will be missed by all the members of HOSMAC for his un-boundless knowledge which he passed on to ever...

It is with sadness that I have to inform everyone that knew him that Derek passed away on the 10th of June 2016. Derek was a former member of the York Club and has been with HOSMAC for about 4 or 5 years. Norman Martindale 1935-2016

Members of Halton and District Model Flying Club learned with much sadness of the death of their Club Honorary President Norman Martindale who passed away in hospital on May 5th 2016 after a short illness. Norman had faced challenging health problems in recent years with characteristic stoicism and courage. The loss of a leg and subsequent use of a prosthetic did nothing to deter him from living his life and pursuing his hobby to the full. Norman became interested in model flying as a small boy...

Ivan Goodchild (1946 - 2016)

I am sad to report that Ivan Goodchild passed away suddenly on Sunday 8th May whilst taking part in an LMA Fly in at Binham, Norfolk. He had just finished flying his beloved B17, said he felt a bit funny, sat down and passed away. Paramedics were called and the East Anglian Air Ambulance attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene. I can only repeat what a friend said and that was he died at his favourite flying site having just flown his favourite aircraft and surrounded by friends. Ivan ...

John Benzing 1941-2016

It is sad to say that John passed away after a short battle with cancer. John had been a keen Control Line flyer for many years, competing in his earlier days in Combat and then finding his vocation flying CL Aerobatics. He has been the BMFA National Champion as well as CLAPA Champion. Although a very insular person, he was totally dedicated as Secretary of CLAPA for in excess of 15 years. He was involved with the running of the Aerobatics at Old Warden for many years as well as helping at many ...

John Roper (SLEC)

I am so sorry to report the sad passing of former owner of SLEC and member of Gravesend Aero-Modelling Club 'John Roper’, who passed away on 16th July 2015. John for many years revolutionised model building with his plastic modelling accessories making life a whole lot easier for us all, and his products can still be bought from Ripmax to this day. I am sure that SLEC products are in virtually every sport plane in every club through out the UK.  But John's legacy is more then just model flyi...

John Henderson FSMAE 1928-2015

His signature tune was contained within his telephone answering message “Sorry John is not here to take your call. If it is to do with the Church or aeromodelling, please, please leave a message and John will get back to you.” This message explained his wide range of friends. His work for the Church will be spoken of elsewhere. For many years, John along with his brother Eric, were to be seen on the BMFA Stand at the Power Nationals and at all the shows within their Area. John was a member of...
