Andrew James (Andy) SEPHTON
I have been building and flying model aircraft without a break since 1958. I’ve tried most disciplines including free flight, radio control and control line with my main interest gravitating towards free flight scale.
I’ve been a member of the BMFA Scale Technical Committee for the past seven years, their PRO for six of them, their treasurer for two and the Chairman for three months (at the time of writing!). Further, I currently write the Scale Column for BMFA News.
I am currently treasurer and membership secretary for the Peterborough Model Flying Club, a member of the Ivel Model Aircraft Club, a member of the Ivinghoe Soaring Association and an Honorary Member of the RAFMAA.
Outside of model flying I have been a military test pilot for most of my working life, both in the RAF and civilian fields. As well as flying and testing fast jet and transport aircraft, I have a similar experiences on historic and light aircraft. The whole has given me an intimate appreciation of the vagaries of the aerodynamics, handling, stability and control of flying machines, which has significant application in the modelling world. In addition, my experiences in project and people management as a Chief Test Pilot for two major UK companies has useful application in the committee environment.
My aims are to bring aeromodelling to a wider audience to try to encourage more participation at all levels, which I believe is essential for the longevity of both the association and our hobby.
