I started RC modelling when I was 15 years old and have enjoyed the hobby all my life.
I flew both Radio Control Aircraft and then Helicopters. I was even a member of the British Helicopter team flying in Holland in the European Helicopter Championships back in the 80’s.

My Model building lead me to the Film industry in England and I was lucky enough to build and fly models on films. Some of the films that I have worked and flown models on, include “Empire of the Sun” , “Slipstream”, and “Memphis Belle” to name a few, along with many other TV commercials flying RC helicopters, RC Aircraft and even scale model cars. I took up Scale flying about 4 years ago, starting in the “flying only” class in UK with a foam T-28. I did well and decided to try and build better Scale models. I do try to visit our local flying site at least three times a week for practice and was flying there the day before I left for Romania. I am still learning every day the in and outs of the hobby. After mainly making models in the beginning of my Film Industry career, I moved to Special Effects and have worked on many blockbuster movies. I was lucky enough to secure a place in this years Scale World Championships in Romania and look forward to the competition, but also to learn from others in order to improve my Modelling skill set. My Model this year is a British Trainer, RAF Tucano T1, built in Ireland by the Shorts Aircraft Company and used by the Royal Air Force to train pilots before moving onto the British Aerospace Hawk. The subject is a 2012 display aircraft specially painted for our English Queens jubilee celebration. Edit biography

I have been interested in building and flying RC scale for many years and was a keen spectator at the British Nationals where I chatted with some of the competitors and judges to find out more. This led to me entering the flying only competitions, at several of the scale heats and also the Nationals, using ARTF's.

This process started about 5 years ago when I decided on the Blackburn Firecrest, a late WW2 era torpedo bomber. The research, scale drawing validation and design took a few years but the build of a 60" test bed version started last summer and although not completely finished was just about ready for flight testing earlier this year. This coincided with the scale team trials where my model and I were selected as the "Reserve". This, with some conditions which included ensuring that it actually flew and was converted to electric, so that there wasn't a cylinder head sticking out. Since then, I have completed and finished the plane and competed with it in a scale heat. I am no longer the reserve and will soon be on the way to Romania with my scale team mates.

Started aeromodelling when I was 7 or so. Started with free flight but not realising that the rubber had to be longer than the model before winding, crushed my first models.

Moved on to control line, but never really mastered more than basic loops.

Started playing with R/C with a two channel proportional radio from Sanwa. Eventually moving to the Futaba M series with a Mick Reeves gangster 52 and O.S 40. There followed a gap when life's usual distractions pulled me away from model flying. A stint of motor racing, classic car restoration, and both coastal and fly fishing kept me busy. I attended the scale control line Nats in 2015, swearing to have a go. In 2017 I flew for the first time in around 40 years at round 1 at the British Nats (Barkston Heath) I finished second. The next year I was just pipped again to second place. In 2019 I finally managed to take gold. Covid and not being able to attend the Nats meant my next Nats was 2023 where I again took gold. I am a firm believer that modellers should "dabble" in several disciplines and have also been Scale Indoor R/C champion, and also competed at Scale Indoor Free Flight. getting on much better having learned the rubber needs to be longer than the model and is stretched when winding. I didn't win but I did finish in the middle of the pack, which was very satisfying. I have been writing the Scale column for RCM&E for over 10 years and really enjoy passing on what little scale knowledge I have learned to others. Edit biography

Aside from a various spells of aeromodelling as a youngster, I started in earnest 2012 with micro models and park flyers.

I thoroughly enjoy the designing and building aspects of the sport as well as the flying.

I started flying in BMFA competitions in 2019 and have competed in numerous RC scale competitions, both indoor, and outdoor as well as a scale free flight competition and an Aerobatics competition. Competition flying has significantly enhanced my flying ability and I have found a great comradery with my fellow competitors.
