Another long day though we did get a bit of a lie in this morning due to the rain. The F3C round which was meant to start at 8.30am, didn't actually get going until 12noon. There was another break for rain for about 1.5 hours and they finally got going again just after 3pm.
In the meantime we took the opportunity to relax and watch a film - the first real downtime we have had since we've been here. Before leaving for the competition site at 5.15pm, each of the pilots had a flight out the back of our accommodation. The owner was happy to let us fly there and we were very grateful to be able to do that - thank you Peter Brix of Fjordvejen Apartments.
We arrived at the competition site just as the last F3C pilot was flying. The judges took a 10 minute break before we started our Freestyle round. Luca was up first. Unfortunately, after 48 seconds his main gear stripped and he had to land. Such a shame as he should have been one of the top scorers. Kim Jensen (DEN) flew next - both Dave and Stu needed to beat his score to keep the team in the running for top place. He scored 429.
Duncan was 3rd up and flew a blistering round which scored 487 - a fantastic score. This was definitely going to be the one to beat. Rasmus followed and also flew a great round. We waited anxiously for his score to come out and were relieved to see him with 483, 4 points behind Duncan. Dave was up next and flew a great round, scoring 446.
Samuel Jenson (DEN) who is Stu's closest rival was next to fly. His style was more smacky / Global 3Dish rather than the usual F3N so we weren't sure how it would be received by the judges. His battery was dying right at the end of his flight but he managed to make it last to 3m 21seconds so that he wasn't subject to a 5% reduction (pilots must fly between 3m20s – 3m40s. He scored 463.
Stu followed Samuel out to the flightline and really pushed himself to try and beat him. He scored 452 beating Dave by 6 points but not managing to better Samuel's score.
Tillmann Baumener did not fly his Preliminary Freestyle round (see earlier post) so he was an unknown quantity. The GBR team watched his flight carefully and were relieved to see him finish with a score of 476 (3rd place). Summer was next to fly and she flew a polished routine scoring 410. Last up was Matthias Wohlrab (GER) who finished the round with a score of 382.
With all the scores in, we were all excited to see Duncan winning his 3rd round meaning that he cannot now be beaten. He is our new European F3N Champion. He couldn't quite believe it.
The last round of the Championship is Music which is a strong round for us. The top team position could still go either way (us or Denmark) so we have everything to fly for.
