It is with great sadness that we report the death of our Vice-President and former Chairman, Kath Watson FSMAE who has passed away after a recent diagnosis of cancer.

Her fourteen years as Chairman, the second longest term in our history, saw several key innovations including the acquisition of Chacksfield House, the requirement for all club members to be BMFA members (which in turn allowed the insurance cover to be extended to club committees and landlords for no additional cost) and the adoption of the BMFA working title.

She was also a strong advocate of establishing a National Flying Centre and latterly devoted much of her time to creating a valuable archive at Buckminster.

To the end Kath remained an active Vice-President and co-publisher of the BMFA News that flourished under her stewardship. She will be sorely missed. A more detailed and fitting obituary will be published in due course.

Kath’s funeral will be held at Loughborough Crematorium at 2.45 pm on Tuesday 3rd October followed by a reception at The Queen Victoria in Syston. BMFA members who knew Kath or would like to pay their respects will be welcome but those wishing to attend the reception must register through the BMFA Office no later than 26th September to assist with catering planning. Cards of condolence to Kath’s family should be sent through the funeral directors: Co-operative Funeralcare, 1116 Melton Rd, Syston, LE7 2HA.

Kath has asked for donations in her memory to be made to the Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals. Please use PDSA’s website https://www.pdsa.org.uk/donate/donate-to-pdsa as that way you will be able to add gift aid if your circumstances allow.
