T-1 day until the F3CN European Championships begin.
F3CN is a joint category with both F3C (precision helicopter aerobatics) and F3N (freestyle helicopter aerobatics) flying at the same site during the same championships.
The 2024 European F3CN Championships are being held in Aabenraa, Denmark at the fabulous RC Parken model flying club. RC Parken has a hard surface runway, grass runway, on-road RC car track, off-road RC car track, a boating pond and the most fabulous club house- I’ll add some photos of that into a following report.
The F3C team consisting of Steve Roberts, Mark Christy and Ian Emery, along with team supporter Peter Christy and F3C judge Bruce Naylor set of by car on Wednesday via the channel tunnel and stopped overnight just short of Bremen in Germany before finishing the last few hours into Denmark on Thursday morning. Lots of teams had already arrived and were well into practice at the official site before the official practice sites opened up on Friday. It was great to see many old friends and also to meet some new faces. The team spent the afternoon trying to fine tune models in the strong wind conditions as we had seen that today's (Friday) forecast was for rain.
Friday dawned and the forecast was correct, so after a relaxed breakfast and filling in our model processing forms we headed out to look at the official practice sites. Most were ok, but a couple were rough farmers fields so we will avoid them! The team then headed back to the official site as it could still be used today for practice and once we had arrived the rain had stopped but the wind was still very strong. All of the pilots flew and confirmed that they were as happy as they can be with model setup in the conditions (wind strength is due to steadily drop of the next couple of days) so it was back to the house for a home made dinner by today's chef Ian and for us to all check models over before the official start of the championships tomorrow with model processing, official practice and the opening ceremony.
