Day 7 started as mad as day 6 finished, we hurried down to the airfield to crack on with assembling the models. With Nigel still a little unwell and the call to static judging an hour earlier than we had expected, the challenge was on to get all the delicate fancy scale bits like pitot tubes and vanes re-attached in time. Danny and Mat had made good progress the night before but they only just got their models completely assembled before getting called to the judges, Nigel had to face the static judges with several dozen small parts left to attach. The missing parts would have added to Nigel's static score for sure but, considering 24 hours earlier we didn't even have planes (and Nigel was writhing in pain), it's easy to be philosophical 😊
Unsure of when we would get called to fly, the next job was to get batteries charged and be prepared to fly at short notice. We had missed the first two round of competition flying due to the customs issues but the CD, understanding of our situation, will fit our missed flights in between other flights. We managed to bag a couple of tables in the main hanger and borrowed an extension lead so battery charging was soon underway and the models were prepped.
In F4B Danny hasn't missed any competition flights but they were scheduled to start in the afternoon. This would have been quite stressful, going from no planes to static judging, and them competition flying in under 24 hours but the weather didn't play ball. Control line flight in a 12mph breeze is tricky but the location of the control line circle is next to the hanger and the rotors coming off it are rather fierce.
With lots going on for us we barely noticed that the airfield had been taken over by a huge emergency services exercise which somewhat delayed proceedings so we didn't get to fly.
The afternoon came and went in a calm manner to the backdrop of F4C competition flights which was very pleasant but we've got the "Nations Night" barbeque/party this evening and a bright and early 8:00am start at the airfield in the morning!
