<p>It is my sad duty to report the death of recently retired BMFA Chairman, Chris Moynihan, who passed away at his home on 6th February 2018 after a long battle with cancer.  Chris had been receiving treatment for some time but remained in good spirits and active as BMFA Chairman for as long as he was able. </p>
<p>Having started model flying as a 10-year-old in 1956, Chris was drawn towards silent flight where he made his mark as a keen thermal soaring competitor and competition organiser. However, always the gentleman, he felt an obligation to give back to the sport he loved and served for many years on various committees including his own club the Thames Valley Silent Flyers, the BMFA Silent Flight Technical Committee, and the British Association of Radio Controlled Soarers  which he chaired for nearly 10 years.   He was subsequently awarded Fellowship of BARCS in recognition of his services.  </p>
<p>Always a strong advocate of the BMFA, Chris was a very active and supportive vice-Chairman of the Society for 7 years, particularly so after his retirement as an HR Director in 2011. However, it was his 4 years as Society Chairman for which Chris will be remembered by most of the membership. Amongst his many achievements in moving the Society forward, the National Flying Centre at Buckminster is a lasting testament to his drive and strong leadership.  He will be sorely missed by many in the Society who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.  We know you will join us in wishing his wife and family our heartfelt condolences.</p>
