I am sad to report that Ivan Goodchild passed away suddenly on Sunday 8th May whilst taking part in an LMA Fly in at Binham, Norfolk. He had just finished flying his beloved B17, said he felt a bit funny, sat down and passed away. Paramedics were called and the East Anglian Air Ambulance attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene. I can only repeat what a friend said and that was he died at his favourite flying site having just flown his favourite aircraft and surrounded by friends.

Ivan was the forefront of electric flight and had been for many years. He was probably best known for his large electric aircraft including his A10 Tankbuster, Avro Lancaster and B17. He was also well known on the scale gliding scene flying his large scale gliders at aerotow meetings across the country. He was an authority on radio equipment and was constantly asked for advice either on radio or electric installations and was always ready to help fellow modellers.

He was actively involved in model airshows, either as a participating pilot, part of the organising team or commentating. He was part of the Ghost Squadron and also flew at many events on the continent, usually in the company of Team Members. As well as all that he also found time to run his own electronics company and flew full size.

RIP our friend, may you have blue skies and fair winds wherever you may be.
