It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Peter (Pete) J. Beadle who died in hospital from a non-COVID ailment on Saturday 23rd January 2021. Peter was admitted to hospital on 7th January and was receiving treatment for a number of issues as he had been in ill health for a while. He was tested for COVID and it was negative.

In the 1970’s he was member of the Northwick Park Model Flying Club and flew with his friends including Sean Bannister, Greg Lewis and others.

In 1983 Pete obtained sponsorship from Henkel Adhesives for Team GB attending the F3B World Soaring Championships held in York. Pete worked for Henkel at the time and they were the makers of GLOY modelling adhesive.

Pete was a long term member of the Ivinghoe Soaring Association (ISA) and had held several ISA committee posts including Competition Secretary from 1991 to 1994, Secretary from 2005 to 2007 and Editor of the Beacon Magazine 2008 and 2009 and finally Comp. Sec. in 2012. He also organised the ever popular ISA Nostalgia Day in September each year held at Ivinghoe Beacon that attracted visitors from other clubs to fly old designs and models.

When it came to model flying Forums Pete was always happy to relate his experience, record his views and give his opinions. On the ISA Forum he had posted far more messages than any other member. He was an early member of BARCS (British Association of Radio Control Soarers) has also been ever present on the BARCS Forum.

In the modelling press, many may remember Pete was a regular columnist in RC Model Flyer writing the ‘Slope Slant’ column for several years until the magazine ceased publication.

Finally, he was legendary for having a large fleet of slope soaring models that he bought and sold on a regular basis. We often felt that buying from, or selling a model to Pete, was a ‘rite-of-passage’ for many ISA members and for slope flyers around the country.

We will of course miss his contribution to this Forum and his presence sitting in his seat on the Beacon enjoying soaring in a light westerly on a warm sunny day. RIP Peter.

We have passed our sincere condolences to Pete’s sister and two brothers.
