<p>John Long FSMAE 1922 – 2015</p>
<p>It is with much regret and great sadness that we inform you of the death of John Long Fellow who passed away on Monday 16<sup>th</sup> November 2015 at the age of 93.</p>
<p>John retired from the Royal Air Force in the mid-seventies after thirty plus years’ service as a pilot rising to rank of Group Captain and Chief Flying Instructor at the Central Flying School.</p>
<p>Following retirement John was the driving force behind the formation of Ramsey Model Aero Club at RAF Upwood Cambridgeshire and it’s relocation to the present site at Warboys in 1984. He was elected President of the Ramsey M<a name="_GoBack"></a>AC.</p>
<p>John was co-opted to the post of SMAE Vice Chairman in 1982 for a brief period.</p>
<p>John was elected to the Radio Control Power Technical Committee in the late seventies and was instrumental in the creation of the Radio Control Power Achievement Scheme. He took on the role of Controller of the RCP Achievement Scheme throughout the 80’s  and was the author of the BMFA training manual ‘<em>Up and Away</em>’. He has introduced innumerable current members to model flying. He gave his blessing for the recent re-vamp of ‘<em>Up and Away</em>’ now called ‘<em>A Flying Start</em>’.</p>
<p>John was awarded the Royal Aero Club Silver Medal in 1988 and elected to the SMAE Fellowship in 1989 in recognition of his work on the achievement scheme and the ‘Up and Away’ Manual.</p>
<p>After giving up model flying in the early 1990’s John maintained his interest in the Ramsey MAC and modelling, looking forward to receiving his BMFA News every two months.</p>
<p>John leaves a wife Anne, daughter Gail and son in law David. Funeral details to follow.</p>
