A sad loss to the world of Aeromodelling.

It's with a great deal of sadness that I have to inform people of the passing of Mick Tiernan on Friday 17th January 2020.

Mick was the first ever F2D Control Line Combat World Champion when the World Champs were held at RAF Woodvale Southport in 1978 as well as previously holding the National Championship title and many other both in the UK and abroad.

Throughout his years in Combat, he became very much the innovator coming up with many new ideas in model design and development which has helped many of the modellers today improve the designs of models and in fact some of the leading Russian and Ukranian F2D models of today still use the tapered wing design that Mick used to great effect back in the early 70's.

Mick started flying in the late 50s and continued to fly competitively up into the 2010's and even after he stopped competing, he was often seen at competitions watching and supporting other flyers. Mick was always fun to be with even though he was a fierce competitor in circle he was always a friend to everyone outside the circle, always smiling and ready for a joke and more often or not, a pint or two.

He will be sadly missed by a lot of the Combat fraternity not just in the UK but world wide, especially by the flyers who have flown both with him and against him in the 50s 60s and 70s and are still flying today but also be remembered with happy thoughts of the times they spent together.

Rest in Peace Mick you will be missed but never forgoten.
