It is with great sadness that we write to inform you of the death of Roger Bellingham (Honorary Member) on Friday 7th October.
Roger devoted a great deal of his life to the model flying movement, serving as BMFA Flying Site Officer on a voluntary basis for a number of years, before being contracted as our full time Flying Site Adviser in 2002, a role which he fulfilled until 2011.
In addition, Roger served as Chairman of the South Midland Area for 14 years and was also a long standing member of the Aylesbury & District MFC (including a long spell as Newsletter Editor/PRO followed by another long spell as Chairman).
Roger also had a passion for motor racing and in 2006 managed to fulfil an ambition by becoming a racing driver for a season. He obtained a competition licence and competed in the 750 Motor Club’s Formula Vee series using his son Guy’s Scarab Mk II single seater (BMFA CEO Dave Phipps had the pleasure of watching him in action at Donnington Park).
Our condolences and sympathy are with his wife Anthea and his family (his son lives in Canada and his daughter lives in Australia).
The funeral will take place at Amersham Crematorium on Friday 21st October at 3:15pm. Anthea requests that flowers are not sent but should friends wish, donations to the Red Cross would be appreciated.
