<p>Her Majesty The Queen approved the gift of the trophy to the Royal Aero Club of the United Kingdom in 2010 and events were held in 2011 (British Aerobatic Association), 2012 (British Microlight Aircraft Association) and 2013 (British Balloon &amp; Airship Club). The trophy is of Irish silver and dates from around 1719 and sits on a wooden base. It has the Royal Arms on one side and the words “The Queen’s Air Race Challenge Cup” on the other, it is believed to be the fourth oldest sporting trophy in existence. </p>
<p>For 2016 the Queens Cup has been awarded to the British Model Flying Association (BMFA) and will be awarded to the winner of a specially arranged First Person View (FPV) Multi-rotor racing event to be held at Popham Airfield, Hampshire, over the weekend of July 30th – 31st. The FPV racing will be organised by the BMFA specialist body for the sport, the British First Person View Racing Association (BFPVRA). </p>
<p>During 2016 Popham Airfield will become somewhat of a centre for FPV multi-rotor racing as they are establishing a permanent FPV race track and also establishing a commercial UAS training school. </p>
<p>It is planned that as well as the contest for the Queens Cup that there will also be a festival of RC rotary flight, the BMFA Rotor-Fest, with the opportunity for a multi-rotor freestyle contest as well as contests for RC Helicopters. Camping will be available and there may also be the opportunity for some after hours flying too. It is also hoped to have significant trade presence and if the event proves a success this could develop in to an annual event. </p>
